I have always loved Liberty in London and as a small child I remember having a chocolate brown elephant from there with Liberty Print on the paws and the neck ribbon and the fur was made from cashmere plush I also have a beautiful rabbit from one Easter with Liberty Print detailing.
I love the creaking wooden staircases and the tiled bar for champagne and the amazing tea room and then taking the lift to the top and the atrium and being able to wander round the rugs and furnishing department like you’re in some Middle Eastern bazar.
I also love the haberdashery department – years ago they did summer course which were amazing and I did one set and learnt loads – very varied ages and skills but amazing times.
Now the courses are back and they kick off with a frilly pinny sewing master class.
Yes you can bring out the inner Queen Bee, domestic goddess and make your own Liberty Print frilly pinny with their expert sewing tutor Nicole Wilson. They will guide you through step by step as you learn how to use your sewing machine to create ruffles, as well as a recap of basic sewing techniques. Your finished pinafore will make a gorgeous gift with a personal, handmade touch – or you may just want to wear it yourself!
The design is featured in their upcoming book The Liberty Book of Home Sewing, alongside a whole range of ideas for home furnishings, clothing and accessories. You’ll be able to get your hands on a copy this October.
